Mission
The Recreation Department supports the Vision and Mission of the City by meeting the recreational needs and desires of the residents of Gonzales by developing, implementing, and maintaining quality programs, services, and facilities which are cost-effective, creative, and responsive to resident input.
Program
Youth Sports - Soccer, Flag Football, Basketball, Girl's Softball, Mini Tball
Youth Programing - Summer Day Camp, School Year Day Camps, After School Programing, Summer Programming, Infant & Toddler Parent Child Playgroups, Friends, Fmaily & Neighbors Caregiver Playgroups
Adult Sports - Co-ed Softball, Co-ed Basketball, Co-ed Flag Football, Co-ed Volleyball

Aquatics - Summer Aquatic programing from May to September
Youth Theatre - Theatre Summer Camp & Collaboration with the Gonzales Unified School District Visual and Performing Arts Program
Goals
- Develop family programming with an emphasis on health and fitness
- Provide a wide range of recreational activities to citizens of all ages
- Work to increase and diversify the participants in all programs
- Work to find additional funding sources and grants for recreation
- Increase collaboration and partnerships with the various community groups to enhance programming
- Partner with other non-profits to enhance or supplant programs to reduce, and/or control costs
City of Gonzales Special Events
The City of Gonzales special seasonal events and activities for residents of all ages. For more information on the City of Gonzales programs contact the Coordinator, Sara Papineau-Brandt at (831) 675-5000.
Special Event Application
Special events applications are required for large events that use public space or facilities for events. Applications are required to be completed 30 days prior to the event. A City coordinator will contact the applicant when the application has been fully reviewed. Conditions of approval will be coordinated with the applicant. Many City run special events have opportunities for non-profit organizations to sell items.
Relay for Life Information
The Relay for Life is a 24-hour walking relay to raise money to Fight Back against Cancer. During the Relay, teams keep a member of their team on the track for the full 24 hours. The Relay begins by honoring Cancer Survivors with the Survivor Lap, followed by the Care Giver Lap. Later in the evening (10 pm) the track is lit with 7,000 luminaries honoring survivors and remembering those who have lost their battle and on Sunday morning we will have a Fight Back ceremony.
