California Law requires that all formal Citizen’s Complaints of a police officer be investigated. You will be offered a Citizen’s Complaint Form to fill out. This form will outline what your complaint is and who it is against. Once the complaint form has been received, it will be assigned for investigation. As in most investigations, the investigator will contact you for the purpose of an interview. The investigator will also interview the accused officer and any witnesses. At the completion of the investigation, a report will be completed that outlines the complaint and the investigator’s findings. At the conclusion of the investigation, you will be notified in accordance with the law.

As with any investigation, it is almost impossible to determine what occurred unless those involved provide us with information. If there is an issue with an employee of the department, it is important that we are made aware of it and take what action we need to correct it.
