City of Gonzales Update from Gonzales Fire Department

As of this morning, the fire that we have all been seeing west of River Road has traveled through the west side of the Gonzales Rural Fire Protection District from Limekiln Road at the north, and Camphora Road to the south.  In an overabundance of caution, the Gonzales Fire Department is currently staffing two crews. One crew is performing structure protection on homes along the River Road corridor, and the other is covering the Gonzales Fire Station and responding to our routine calls. 

Our Fire Chief Jason Muscio, has been in constant communication and coordinating with CAL FIRE and Monterey County Regional Fire to locate and identify homes that may be threatened both in and outside of our responsibility area along River Road and developing plans to protect those homes if needed. We have three full-time engineers working rotating shifts at this time, and the Gonzales Volunteer Fire Fighters we have available are stepping up and making sure we are covered. 

We are hopeful that the majority of the hazards we have identified along the west side of the Gonzales Rural Fire Protection District along River Road will be mitigated by Saturday, and we can resume normal operations and respond only as needed to assist CAL FIRE. Unfortunately, we will be dealing with the smoke and other impacts from the fire for an extended period of time.

Actualización del Departamento de Bomberos de la Ciudad de Gonzales

A partir de esta mañana, el incendio que todos hemos estado viendo al oeste de River Road ha atravesado el lado oeste del Distrito de Protección Rural contra Incendios de Gonzales de Limekiln Road en el norte y Camphora Road al sur. En una sobreabundancia de precaución, el Departamento de Bomberos de Gonzales cuenta actualmente con dos equipos. Un equipo está realizando la protección de estructuras en las casas a lo largo del corredor de River Road y el otro está cubriendo la estación de Bomberos de Gonzales y respondiendo a nuestras llamadas de rutina.

Nuestro Jefe de Bomberos Jason Muscio, ha estado en constante comunicación y coordinación con CAL FIRE y el Departamento de Bomberos del Condado de Monterey para ubicar e identificar hogares que pueden estar amenazados tanto dentro, como fuera de nuestra área de responsabilidad a lo largo de River Road, y desarrollar planes para proteger esos hogares si es necesario.  Tenemos tres Ingenieros de tiempo completo trabajando en turnos rotativos en este momento, y los Bomberos Voluntarios de Gonzales que tenemos disponibles están intensificando y asegurándose de que estemos cubiertos.

Tenemos la esperanza de que la mayoría de los peligros que hemos identificado a lo largo del lado oeste del Distrito de Protección Rural contra Incendios de Gonzales a lo largo de River Road, sean mitigados para el sábado, y podamos reanudar las operaciones normales y responder solo según sea necesario para ayudar a CAL FIRE. Desafortunadamente, estaremos lidiando con el humo y otros impactos del fuego durante un período de tiempo prolongado.
