City Government

The Gonzales City council is composed of five elected members. Members are elected at-large. That means they are not elected by districts within the City.

The Mayor is elected every two (2) years.  

City Council members are elected every four(4) years.

The City Council:

  1. Sets policy for Gonzales city government  

  1. Approves Gonzales' Annual budget and audits  

  1. Approved laws within Gonzales  

  1. Hires and fires the City Manager, City Attorney, City Engineer  

  1. Set priorities for the City Manager  

  1. Establish spending limits  

  1. Approve contracts  

  1. Meets in public to discuss and decide public issues  

Regular meetings are first (1st) and third (3rd) Mondays at 6 pm at the City Council Chambers, 117 Fourth Street.
